The Katipo at Uriti Point are getting an ecological makeover with the help of Ewan from GWRC. Ewan has been spraying the marram grass on the dunes and replacing it with sand daphne and sand tussock and other native plants.. He’s taking his time, going slowly so that the dunes can continue to be held in place by the roots of the marram plants until the roots of the natives are big enough, and complex enough to replace them.

Locals and hapu are involved with the planting, and supporters of Sustainable Wairarapa are also welcome to help. If you would like to get involved please contact Jim O’Malley: omalleyjim70@gmail.com
